Measured success
Porsche Australia & New Zealand – The inspiring journey of a leading New Zealand creative highlights the power of courage and persistence.
The 1948 Porsche 356 “No. 1” Roadster represents more than the beginning of a globally renowned sportscar brand. It is a symbol of determination and accomplishment, qualities usually found in only the highest achievers.
Megan Kenny belongs to this select group. One of New Zealand’s pre-eminent designers and clothiers, this inspiring businesswoman has an attitude tailor-made for success, the same that drove Ferdinand Porsche more than 75 years ago.
Megan has always had an intense drive to thrive in business. Over the years this determination has helped her establish not one but two hugely successful local tailoring brands. The first, Meg’s Tailoring, was established as a single store in Parnell in 1995 and quickly became a household name thanks to her skills in dressmaking, bridal wear and restyling.
Her second tailoring brand, Kenny and Harlow, has fast become one of Auckland’s leading bridal boutiques. Her bespoke gowns are renowned for fulfilling their promise of giving brides the dresses of their dreams. They brim with remarkable details and quality.
Meg’s entrepreneurial achievements were born from early challenges. From a young age, she loved to sew and create, inspired by her mother who was a dressmaker. Tragically, she lost both her parents by the age of 15, thrusting her into the workforce to forge her own path from an early age.
“It forced me to dig my heels in and look after myself,” she says. “And that attitude absolutely remains the same today – it still drives me to succeed and be the best I can be.
“I think it took my whole life to realise that I was really good at what I do. When you’re moving forward all the time you don’t notice the skill you’ve developed that’s got you from the start to where you are now.”
Overcoming those significant early setbacks sparked in Megan a relentless passion to make the most of her creative skills. It’s put her in the enviable position of doing what she’s always dreamed of – designing and creating beautiful dresses for one of the most important days of her clients’ lives – and being hugely accomplished at it, too. To Megan, her success is no surprise, because she has always believed that doing well in life starts by doing what you love.
“The secret to being driven is being passionate about what you do,” she concludes. “If you’re passionate about what you do, that drives you forward.”
